Nice Promise, But Will Telugu People Encourage?

For a long time, now, there have been several complaints about the kind of films that are being done by Tamil star Suriya. The main complaint against the talented actor is that he is not picking the right kind of subjects that would elevate him as an actor.

But for a change, a lot of promise is being displayed by the upcoming film of Suriya, which is Retro. This film is preparing for release on May 1, and the promotional material has been largely positive.

The initially released teaser looked very promising with vintage action vibe, and this was followed by this viral video song, featuring Suriya and Pooja Hegde. The dance step in this video song is also going viral on social media now.

By the looks of it, the promotional material that has been released till now, including the first teaser and the recently released song have managed to gain the right kind of reception.

As things stand, there is a layer of positivity on this film and Tamil folk are firmly believing that it would mark the comeback of Suriya.

However, the issue when it comes to the Telugu prospect is tag there’s not too much going in for the cause of this film. Despite the quality that is shown in the visuals in the teaser, the core plot doesn’t appear to be catering to the Telugu audience.

Pooja Hegde has started to promote this film in Telugu and we can expect Suriya also to do the same soon. But it really needs to be seen if the Telugu audience are prepared to encourage this film in theatres. This is going to be the real challenge.

Had it been a proper commercial potboiler which is expected from Suriya, things might’ve been different in Telugu but with the film appearing to be a different layered actioner with Tamil nativity, the prospects must be closely observed.

Moreover, the competition with Nani’s HIT 3 could also take a toll on ten returns in Telugu. This film now needs a strong word of mouth to pair with Suriya’s existing Telugu market if it is to gain further traction.
