New Common Central Secretariat buildings to have economical, premium canteens

NEW DELHI: In a first for govt office spaces, canteens in the new Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings will have two sections — the“economical section” to offer meals at a very affordable price and the “premium section” that will have a price list on par with prices of restaurants in nearby areas such as Connaught Place and the Lutyens’ Zone.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has invited bids for these canteens in the three new CCS buildings, which are nearing completion. These office buildings, being built along the Kartavya Path, will have 15,000 employees. To begin with, the finance and home ministries will shift to these buildings so that necessary improvements can be done in the North Block for the Yugen Yugeen Bharat Museum.
As per the bid document, the menu and prices for the “economical” category will be fixed by the contractor after taking approval of the engineer-in-charge or committee constituted by the engineer-in-charge. These prices will be subject to the ceiling price list.
A reference price list in the tender mentions that a cup of tea and coffee in this category would cost Rs 20 and Rs 30. A glass of lassi or chhach will be Rs 40, while a plate of dal, rajma, seasonal vegetable and paneer would cost Rs 80. An executive and deluxe lunch would cost Rs 125 and Rs 200, respectively. The list includes south Indian dishes and sweets as well.
In the case of the “premium” section, the contractor will decide the menu and the prices should be in line as per the “prevailing market rates for similar items and services being offered/available in highly reputed pan India chain of restaurants/cafes located in Connaught place, Lutyens’ Zone and adjoining areas”.
The contractor with required experience and capability will also supply and serve food items as required during official meetings, seminars, conferences and functions as per actual requirements.
