Earlier this morning, the Telangana government’s Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished Actor Nagarjuna’s N-Convention, located in the Madhapur area.
Authorities stated that the convention hall was demolished as it was built by encroaching on the land of Thammidikunta Lake.

Meanwhile, the N-Convention was in the news for a long time due to the encroachment allegations. Back in 2014, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) issued a preliminary notification to N-Convention, concerning the Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer zones of Thammidikunta lake.
HYDRAA officials pointed out that after receiving the preliminary notification, N-Convention approached the High Court.

However, the court asked the officials to follow the due process regarding the determination of the Full Tank Level (FTL). The final notification was issued in 2016.
The officials said that as per the court’s order, the FTL survey was done in the presence of N-Convention and the report has been given to them as well.

Later, N-Convention approached the Miyapur Additional District Judge Court on the survey report in 2017. It was stated that the case is pending and no stay orders have been given from any court.
HYDRAA stated that N-Convention manipulated the system and continued its commercial business through the illegal establishments built on the lake’s FTL and Buffer Zones.
It was further added that N-Convention encroached one acre and 12 guntas in FTL and two acres 18 guntas in the buffer zone of Thammidikunta lake.
HYDRAA officials asserted that no permission from the GHMC had been given for raising these structures within N-Convention.
HYDRAA went on to say that N-Convention tried to regularise these illegal establishments but failed to get approval from the concerned authorities.
It was said that due to the illegal encroachments on the Thammidikunta Lake and nearby Nalas’ lands, there are severe water-logging issues in the Madhapur area.
The officials further added that the capacity of the lake has been decreased by more than 50-60% due to these encroachments. Many people’s houses, which are located in low-lying areas, are also submerged during floors.
The officials asserted that the demolition has been done today by HYDRAA, Irrigation, Town Planning, Revenue and other departments by following legal due process.
