Mysterious update released for several Galaxy phones in Europe

After a rather long delay, Samsung finally brought the latest (June 2024) security patch to select smartphones this week, and we had expected more Galaxy devices to receive similar updates in the coming days. However, Samsung appears to have different plans.

In Europe, Samsung has released new updates for several Galaxy smartphones, and these updates all include last month’s security patch. Even the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series, which were updated with the June 2024 security patch in some markets earlier this week, are getting an update with the older security patch in Europe.

However, while security has not been enhanced in these updates, they should bring other improvements, as suggested by their firmware versions. Samsung hasn’t said what those improvements are, but it’s possible the company is attempting to address some of the bugs and issues—including high battery drain—users have faced since updating their phones to One UI 6.1.

The full list of devices that are getting this mysterious update is as follows:

Samsung is also bringing the May 2024 security update to the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy Tab S7 FE for the first time. Both devices were recently updated to One UI 6.1, and now, with almost half of June gone by, they are getting last month’s security enhancements in the European region.

If you own any of these devices, you can check for the latest software update from their Settings » Software update » Download and install menu. You can also download the latest firmware for Samsung smartphones and tablets from our firmware library.
