Notorious Indian stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has landed himself in hot water again. Lawyer Amita Sachdeva has filed a complaint against Faruqui for his show “Hafta Wasooli” broadcast on JioHotstar.
Sachdeva alleged that Faruqui’s show encourages vulgarity, insults several religions, goes against cultural values, and corrupts young minds and society.

Sachdeva has filed an FIR under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353 and the IT Act and other concerned sections.
The complaint has been emailed and will be submitted and speed-posted on Monday in physical form. If nothing happens, Sachdeva has pledged to go to court to secure justice.

Faruqui’s show “Hafta Wasooli” was controversial from its inception on 14th February 2025. The programme is known to have Faruqui’s acid tongue and his sarcasm and wit, used to target the social and cultural problems of our times.
Nevertheless, this was not acceptable to all, with the result being the present lawsuit against him. Faruqui has a history of encountering legal issues before.

Previously, he was charged with offending people through religious joke-telling and was arrested as well as subsequently bailed out.
The recent complaint is adding to the string of legal problems for the comedian, questioning comedy’s limits as well as free speech in India.
As the legal process continues, only time will tell how this case will affect Faruqui’s career and the national debate regarding comedy and censorship in the country.
