Chhagan Bhujbal meets Sharad Pawar amidst tensions over maratha quota boycott

Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal met NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) chief Sharad Pawar at his residence, following a veiled attack on Pawar regarding the opposition’s boycott of an all-party meeting on the Maratha quota issue.

Bhujbal, who is with the rival NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, visited Sharad Pawar’s ‘Silver Oak’ residence in Mumbai without providing a reason for the meeting. The opposition, including Congress, NCP (SP), and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), did not attend the meeting called by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, claiming lack of consultation on the Maratha reservation issue. Bhujbal suggested opposition leaders skipped the meeting due to a call from Baramati, Sharad Pawar’s stronghold. Sources indicated that Bhujbal feels politically isolated within his party.

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar commented that it is common for political leaders in Maharashtra to engage in discussions regardless of their differences, and NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad noted Sharad Pawar’s generosity in meeting with those holding differing views. (PTI)
