MS Dhoni announced his international retirement in 2019 in an Instagram post

While he has not officially announced his retirement from IPL, fans would have already turned on the notifications for MS Dhoni’s Instagram posts in anticipation that he might drop the big news there, as in 2019.

On August 15, 2020, MS Dhoni shocked the world and probably rocked Instagram with a post captioned, “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”. For someone of MSD stature, such a ‘matter of fact’ retirement announcement was not what his cricket fans were expecting, but the man always had the penchant to do the unexpected. In this social media age, when everything happens in the social space, MS Dhoni has stayed away from it as much as possible, and as his cricketing career comes to a close, it will stay that way.

MS Dhoni on CSK Connection: ‘It’s an Emotional Connect, It’s not Like a Player Who Comes, Plays a Couple of Months and Goes Back Home’

While he has not officially announced his retirement from IPL, fans would have already turned on the notifications for MS Dhoni’s Instagram posts in anticipation that he might drop the big news there, as in 2019. And we have good reason to believe that he may take that route for his IPL retirement announcement because the great man prefers Instagram over Twitter (now known as X).

“I prefer Instagram over Twitter. Twitter, I believe that nothing good has happened over Twitter. You know, especially in India, there’s always a controversy. Somebody will write something, and it turns into a controversy. I was like, you know, why do I need to be there? You know, it used to be 140 characters. You cannot elaborate. Imagine me putting something over there, and then it is left up to the people to read it, and they just interpret what they want to interpret.

So, I’m like, no, no, that’s not really for me. Instagram still, I like it because, you know, I could put up my picture or a video or something and just leave it. That is also changing now. So I still prefer Instagram, but I’m not very active because, I don’t know, I feel, you know, less distractions are better, but in between, on and off, I’ll put something for the fans, you know, so that they know, okay, I’m somewhere good, you know, in good hands. So I’m doing what I like,” he said.

MS Dhoni’s Advice: ‘Don’t take the result out of it, take the learnings’

Dhoni gave advice on how to deal with defeat and what to do if you do not achieve your targets.

“Can I learn something out of it and can I detach myself slightly from the result? Yes, we all feel hurt when we lose, when we don’t achieve the target. But what is important is to take the learnings out of it. But in modern times, we are so much focused on the result that, you know, we keep thinking about it. And later, when you start moving on, you do the right thing, which is, okay, you take the learnings out of it. You don’t take the result out of it, you take the learnings, okay. These are the areas where we need to improve to achieve the target, whether it’s the next game or the next quarter.”
