The mortal remains of 32-year-old Jissmol and her two young daughters, who were found dead in the Meenachil River earlier this week, were laid to rest at Cherukara St. Mary’s Knanaya Church near Pala on Saturday.

Prior to performing the funeral rites, the bodies were placed for public viewing at Lourdes Matha Church in Neerikkad, the native parish of her husband. Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded as Jissmol’s grieving parents and relatives paid their final respects. Hundreds of mourners gathered to offer prayers and bid farewell to the mother and her children.

As per customs in the Knanaya Christian community, a woman and her children are typically buried in the husband’s parish. However, Jissmol’s family initially objected, accusing her husband, Jimmy, and his family of harassment and physical abuse. Following the intervention of church authorities, a compromise was reached to allow public viewing at Neerikkad and following this, the bodies were taken to Pala.

Speaking to the media earlier, Jissmol’s father, P.K. Thomas, and her brother, Jittu Thomas, had alleged that she had faced continuous discrimination and mistreatment at her husband’s home. “We will go to any length to ensure justice for her,” said Mr. Thomas.

According to the police, Jissmol Thomas jumped into the Meenachil river last week along with her daughters - four-year-old Neha Maria and one-year-old Nora Jiss Jimmy.
