Mumbai is expected to witness the arrival of southwest monsoon around June 10-11, the weather office said. As per media reports, the onset of rains, however, will be in accordance with it’s usual arrival date.
The director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai, Sunil Kamble informed that the southwest monsoon has already arrived in the Andaman Islands and is on the way to reach Kerala by May 31.
He further noted that Mumbai can expect the monsoons to arrive between June 10 and 11.

The weather bureau official also said that the exact date for the arrival of rains in Mumbai will be announced after observing its progress in Kerala at the end of this month.
“While there could be some difference by 3 – 4 days, currently, we are expecting the monsoon to arrive on schedule,” Indian Express quoted Kamble as saying.
Meteorologists and weather experts, have however indicated that the pre monsoon showers are likely to hit the state from the end of May.
The official date of monsoon in Mumbai is June 11. However, in 2023, the arrival of monsoon was delayed by nearly two weeks mainly due to Cyclone Biparjoy.
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather Services said, “From the end of this month, pre monsoon activity is expected to start in Mumbai. In the first week of June, isolated pockets may receive light rain which will later intensify as the south-west monsoon ushers in.”
Meanwhile, the financial capital of the country is still reeling under hot and humid conditions as the maximum temperatures have soared to nearly 35 degrees Celsius in the city.
As per IMD scientists, the high humidity levels are likely to stay for the next two to three days at minimum.
