Meeting of legislators, officers to be convened to discuss issues concerning teachers

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa on Monday agreed to a suggestion by Council members to convene a meeting of legislators and officers to discuss issues related to the promotion of schoolteachers.

He was responding to a question by some members, including S.V. Sankanur, S.L. Bhoje Gowda and D.T. Srinivas.

The members urged Chairman Basavaraj Horatti to ask the Minister to convene a meeting to discuss the issue. The Minister agreed to the suggestion by Mr. Horatti.

Mr. Srinivas said that the government is delaying the promotion of teachers found eligible two years ago. The Minister said that there are several reasons, including pending court cases and the need to change cadre and recruitment rules, for the delay.

Mr. Sankanur said that the government has forced teachers of classes 1-7 to teach classes 1-5 and that it can be perceived as forced demotion. He asked the government to correct it.

Member H. Vishwanath complained that most vacancies in libraries remained unfilled, affecting the future of students.

He said that Mr. Madhu Bangarappa has lost control over the department.

Meanwhile, Congress members objected to a comment by Mr. Vishwanath against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao asked Mr. Vishwanth not to drag the Chief Minister into the issue related to the Department of Libraries and asked him not to use the opportunity to settle personal scores.

House leader and Minister N.S. Bose Raju asked the member not to take the name of the Chief Minister when he was not in the House.

Responding to an issue raised by member M. Nagaraju, the Education Minister replied that by next year, a government high school will be opened in Bastawad village where the Suvarna Soudha is situated in Belagavi.
