Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata took to Instagram on Tuesday, reminiscing the childhood camaraderie he shared with his younger brother Jimmy Tata. The billionaire shared a black and white photo, apparently clicked in 1945, with his younger brother.

“Those were happy days. Nothing came between us. (1945 with my brother Jimmy),” Tata captioned the image, shared by the businessman with his 7 million followers on the social media platform.

Jimmy, 82, a shareholder in Tata Sons and other Tata Group companies, has maintained a low profile; he stays in a 2BHK flat in Colaba and doesn’t a mobile phone.

RPG Group chairman Harsh Goenka introduced Jimmy to the world in a Twitter post shared on January 19, 2022.

“Did you know of Ratan Tata’s younger brother Jimmy Tata who lives a quiet reticent life in a humble 2 bhk flat in Colaba, Mumbai! Never interested in business, he was a very good squash player and would beat me every time. Low profile like the Tata group!” Goenka wrote in the viral post.

Jimmy Tata is a shareholder in Tata Sons, TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels and Tata Power.

According to a Times of India report, the younger Tata, also a bachelor, doesn’t own a mobile phone and rarely steps out of his apartment.

A Sir Ratan Tata Trust trustee, Jimmy inherited the position in adherence to his father’s will Naval Tata, who died in 1989.

A young Jimmy was adopted by Sir Ratanji Tata’s wife Navabai from a middle-class Parsi family after the death of his father, the report added.

Jimmy and Ratan have another sibling Noel, who was born to Naval Tata and his second wife Simone. Noel is the bother-in-law of the Late Cyrus Mistry; he is the MD of Tata International and chairman of Trent.

Ratan Naval Tata recently celebrated his 85th birthday on December 28, 2022. He was born in Mumbai in 1937. Ratan was raised by his grandmother. He did his schooling in Mumbai at the Campion School and finished secondary education at the Cathedral and John Connon School. He has a degree in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.
