Making a film as big as Ramayana isn’t just a financial gamble, it’s an emotional one too. With such a massive project, the audience rarely gives a second chance. It’s either make or break.

To begin with, the original Ramayana exists in two prominent versions, one written by Ved Vyas and the other by Tulsidas, known as Ramcharitmanas.
Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas is more popular among the masses, unlike the version by Ved Vyas. The two differ in several plotlines, which makes the makers’ decision even more crucial.

While the creators have decided not to take too many creative liberties and to follow the Ved Vyas version, the big risk lies in whether the audience will accept this choice.
Some believe that the casting should have been reversed, with Ranbir Kapoor playing Ravana and Yash playing Rama. However, others argue that Ranbir exudes the calm composure of Lord Rama, while Yash naturally carries the intense aura needed to portray Ravana.

Another major highlight is the film’s massive budget of ₹835 crore, out of which Ranbir Kapoor is charging only ₹75 crore, which is roughly 8% of the entire budget. Yash, on the other hand, is a producer on the film, and his professional fees aren’t counted separately.
Overall, the budget allocated to the cast doesn’t even make up 25% of the film’s total cost, which is encouraging because it means more of the budget goes into the craft, not just the faces.
Two of the biggest names in the music industry, Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, are composing the score. The VFX is being handled by the same company that worked on Dune and Interstellar.
However, the biggest doubt among fans is about the film’s writer, Shridhar Raghavan.
Having written films like Pathaan, Tiger 3, and Shiddat, many are unsure whether he has what it takes to adapt a story as grand and spiritually significant as the Ramayana.
Still, the project holds massive potential to be a game-changer for Bollywood and Indian cinema on a global level, and fans are hoping that their expectations will not just be met, but exceeded.
