In a company-wide meeting with Meta staff, Zuckerberg opened up about his thoughts on the recently launched Apple’s AR headset Vision Pro.
Even as Apple continues to hog the limelight with its revolutionary Vision Pro headset, it seems Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg is remarkably unaffected. The Vision Pro was launched at WWDC 2023 only days after Meta announced its VR headset, Quest 3. With Vision Pro, Apple seems to be giving Meta a run for its money. However, the latest reports suggest that Zuckerberg is unfazed by the ongoing comparison between the two tech giants and their visions of AR.
Reportedly, in a companywide meeting with Meta staff, Zuckerberg said that Apple’s Vision Pro did not present any major breakthroughs in technology that Meta had not already explored. He stated that Apple’s vision for how people will use its device is not the same as his vision. He reportedly emphasized that Meta Quest 3’s price of $499, compared to Vision Pro’s $3,499, would allow it to reach a wider audience.
“I think that their announcement really showcases the difference in values and vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important,” Zuckerberg told employees who were gathered at the company’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters for its first all-hands meeting since 2020. Zuckerberg said that the Quest is about “people interacting in new ways and feeling closer,” while also being “about being active and doing things,” as quoted in the document.

The Meta CEO went on to say that his company’s vision for the Metaverse and presence is ‘fundamentally social.’ He stated that it was all about people interacting in new ways and feeling connected in new ways. He asserted that the Meta Quest 3 was all about being active and doing things.
The 39-year-old, in a veiled attack, said that Apple’s demos mostly showed a person sitting on a couch by themselves. Although this may be the future of computing, he highlighted that this was not something he envisioned for Meta.
“There’s a real philosophical difference in terms of how we’re approaching this. And, seeing what they put out there and how they are going to compete just made me even more excited and, in a lot of ways, optimistic that what we’re doing matters and is going to succeed. But it’s going to be a fun journey,” Zuckerberg was quoted as saying.
