'Many factors against BJP but if you ...': Owaisi on Congress' EVM charge for Haryana loss
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a swipe at Congress on Wednesday and said that many factors were against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently-held Haryana elections, but it was “significantly painful” that Congress could still not defeat the party.
Owaisi also said that to blame electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the defeat in the Haryana assembly elections is wrong.
“It is very easy to blame EVMs. You win due to EVMs and when you lose, then it is wrong. My opinion is that the BJP should have lost this state. There were many factors working against them. So if you can’t defeat the BJP here, it will be a significant pain,” Owaisi told news agency ANI.
His statement came after Congress blamed the system and the EVMs for its defeat in the recently concluded elections where the BJP won 48 seats and the country’s oldest party could gain only 37 seats.
Notably, the BJP contested 89 of the 90 seats in Haryana, choosing not to field a candidate in Sirsa, where its ally, Gopal Kanda, was the sitting MLA; however, Kanda lost his seat in the elections.
Yesterday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote a letter to the Election Commission, complaining about the slow Haryana election results update. Later in the day during a press briefing, he also claimed that there were serious complaints about the integrity of the counting process and functioning of EVMs in several constituencies.
The party also said that the EVMs, that were fully charged, had Congress in the lead, while those with “60%-70%” charge appeared to have been manipulated to favour BJP. Jairam and Pawan Khera also alleged that the EC website delayed showing data when Congress appeared to gain the lead.
