The highly anticipated Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha in the lead roles and directed by Mani Ratnam, was released in theaters yesterday and has received disastrous responses from audiences.

Many viewers after Thug Life have commented that while the first half of the movie was somewhat bearable, the second half was highly disappointing, with the screenplay feeling flat throughout.

Thug Life has generated huge expectations among audiences since its announcement, primarily because it was directed by Mani Ratnam, who boasts a massive fan base and is a respected filmmaker known for delivering cult classics such as Nayagan, Thalapathi, Iruvar, and Alaipayuthey.

Kollywood audiences feel that for such a legendary director, Thug Life felt like a low-effort movie, even worse than his previous below-average film, Kaatru Veliyidai.

After Thug Life’s release, many people on social media stated that Mani Ratnam had lost his touch for delivering peak emotions, which his previous movies used to have and for which he is celebrated.

However, in Thug Life, even basic emotions are missing, which is the main reason for its failure, also in many places, Thug Life felt like a mediocre gangster drama.

Despite attempting to explore new relationship dynamics, Mani Ratnam should have stuck to his core strength of portraying emotions, as he is a master at it, says the Kollywood audiences.

Nevertheless, Kollywood audiences are hoping that despite the terrible failure of Thug Life Mani Ratnam will bounce back with his next movie and reclaim his throne.
