Manchester City are interested in signing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso as they look at replacements for Kyle Walker but are willing to wait until the summer.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed that Pep Guardiola had left Walker, 32, at home ahead of the 2-2 draw with Brentford after the defender asked to leave the club.

Both Milan clubs are vying for his services and Mail Sport understands that any loan agreement could end in a two-year permanent deal at its conclusion.

The impending exit for a first-team regular necessitates a replacement, and City are hopeful of landing Cambiaso. Talks between the club and the player are scheduled for Friday.

The 24-year-old, who has been capped 13 times by Italy, has been a mainstay in Thiago Motta’s side this term. His only absence from the line-up was as a result of an ankle injury ahead of a December draw with Venezia.

Cambiaso has mainly been fielded in a left back role for the Old Lady, though he is also capable of playing on the right side of defence as well as in more attacking positions on that flank.

The central defender, who has agreed a four-and-a-half year contract, needs to undergo a medical and source a work permit before officially being confirmed as Guardiola’s first new arrival of a busy January window.
