Man City have reached a £29.4million agreement with Palmeiras to sign centre back Vitor Reis.
The Brazilian defender will link up with Pep Guardiola‘s side immediately rather than stay in Brazil for the Club World Cup.
Palmeiras president Leila Pereira had confirmed City made an official bid last week which fell short of their valuation but talks continued.
The signing of the 19-year-old, who can also play right-back, comes as a boost to City as Kyle Walker pushes for his move to Milan.
‘There was an official proposal from Manchester City but we are negotiating. I will not talk about the amount but it did not reach what Palmeiras wants,’ said the Palmeiras president.
‘But I’m not in a hurry. Vitor still has a long contract. We’re talking and if we reach a value that’s good for Palmeiras, for the athlete and for Manchester, OK. But for now, nothing has been decided.’

Pep Guardiola’s side are also expected to finalise the signing of Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov
City are also working to finalise a fee for Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this week
Reis also had interest from a number of clubs in Europe, including Brighton who had a bid rejected at the start of the month.
City are also working to finalise a fee for Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this week and will sign Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
Khusanov, the 20-year-old Uzbekistan international, missed Sunday’s victory at Le Havre as City worked on wrapping up the move.
The central defender, who has agreed a four-and-a-half year contract, needs to undergo a medical and source a work permit before officially being confirmed as Guardiola’s first new arrival of a busy January window.
Mail Sport reported last month that the Premier League champions were hopeful of landing three or four new recruits in all areas of a squad grappling with a constant injury crisis.
Marmoush had emerged as a target in the forward areas and the 25-year-old can operate anywhere across the front three or as a foil for top scorer Erling Haaland.
Frankfurt, nine points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, are thought to be holding out for around £67m to allow the Egyptian to leave mid-season.
