A 26-year-old beautician was sexually harassed, and assaulted by a group of drunk men on the street after she objected to their sexual overtures in Bannerghatta on Sunday.

Humiliated and embarrassed, the victim called her friend, a gym trainer for help, who reached the spot and assaulted one of the harassers and was eventually hospitalised. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras, based on which the Bannerghatta police have arrested the accused charging them for sexual harassment, outraging the modesty of a woman, assault and criminal intimidation and are further investigating.

According to the police, the victim was out to buy groceries around 4 p.m. on Sunday in Renuka Yellamma Layout near Mailasandra. The accused, under the influence of alcohol, confronted her and harassed her soliciting sexual favours. CCTV footage showed the accused misbehaved with her by making lewd gestures and verbally harassing, and even tried to touch her inappropriately.

The victim, objected and shouted back raising alarm for which the accused slapped her and manhandled her when she tried to escape. The men reportedly thrashed her when she tried to resist the harassment and defend herself. In the clip, she was seen trying to fight back. When passers-by rushed to her help, she escaped and called her male friend to narrate the ordeal.

The victim later filed a complaint based on which the police have arrested the accused. The accused has also filed a counter complaint alleging assault. The police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
