Malaysia Masters Final, PV Sindhu vs Wang Zhi Yi Live Score: PV Sindhu went down against China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-16, 5-21, 16-21 in a thrilling women’s singles final at Malaysia Masters 2024 in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. The match lasted 79 minutes.
In three previous encounters, Sindhu had lost to the reigning Asian champion Wang once but won twice. The Indian started superbly to take the opening game but Wang fought back to force the decider. In Game 3, Sindhu had a 11-3 lead and the finish line in sight but after the change of ends, Wang produced a stunning turnaround to win the match.
“It’s sad that I didn’t get the result that I expected. I think I should have pulled it off, maintaining the lead (in Game 3), but there were really good rallies and she also came back. And overall I can say that it is, it’s been a very good match. I mean, it’s a bit disappointing, but a lot of positives to take from this match and the whole tournament as well. I am happy that I least came to the finals. I played well, these these matches will definitely give me a lot of confidence,” Sindhu told BWF on Sunday. “But, you know, I could have won that, it’s just not one of those days.”
On Saturday, she had registered an 88-minute come-from-behind win against a gritty Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 at the Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
But Sindhu can take positives from this week. “I have recovered and am completely alright now. I’m moving well. So I think I’m definitely getting that confidence back and doing well. These kinds of wins definitely give me a lot of confidence,” Sindhu had told BWF on Saturday after beating he Thai opponent to improved the H2H against her to 18-1. In the quarterfinals on Friday, the World No. 15 shuttler outwitted top seed Han Yue, ranked sixth, 21-13 14-21 21-12 in a 55-minute match to avenge her loss to the Chinese in their last meeting at the Asia badminton Championships in Ningbo last month.
