It seems like the country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra is all fired up and ready to launch the more affordable models of its highly popular lifestyle off-roader Thar. The company recently uploaded the updated brochures of the Thar which include the specifications of its RWD models on its official website. The updated brochures display the powertrain specs and the list of features included in the coming variants of the RWD Thar.
According to the newly released brochures, the Thar 4×2 will come in two variants – AX (OPT) and LX. The AX(OPT) will be the lower trim which will be missing out on a few of the key features offered in the Thar. The LX variant on the other hand will come equipped with features like, automatic HVAC controls, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which will offer Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 4 speakers, 2 tweeters, electric ORVM adjustments and a few other tech features on the inside. The Thar 4×2 variants on the exterior will also come with two additional color options which will be the Everest White and the Blazing Bronze.

Meanwhile, in terms of powertrain options, the Thar 4×2 will come with two engine options – a petrol and a diesel engine. The first option will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged mStallion TGDi petrol engine that will produce around 150 PS of power along with 320 Nm of torque. This petrol mill will be only offered with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Additionally, the second engine option will be the 1.5-liter diesel engine will be shared with the XUV300. The D117 CRDe diesel motor will generate a maximum of 117 PS of power but will manage to produce a healthy 300 Nm of torque. Unlike the petrol engine, this will come mated only with a six-speed manual transmission.
Recently a YouTuber uploaded a video on his channel Yash9w he was seen driving the production-spec version of the rear-wheel drive Mahindra Thar on the roads of Chandigarh. From the video we also noted that the 4×2 model does not pose any different from the outgoing 4×4 models. From the outside they look identical and on the inside as well it does not look much different from the four-wheel drive version. The RWD variant retains the overall blacked out theme of the interior. However, the additional lever for the four-wheel drive system placed near the 6-speed transmission lever has been replaced by a small storage space.
In other Mahindra news, the company will be avoiding the 2023 Auto Expo however it will be launching the Thar RWD and its all-new electric sub-compact hatchback the XUV400 EV this month. It is believed that instead of spending a fortune in the expo the company will be organizing its own launch events just after the Auto Expo.
The new EV will be based on the ICE XUV300 although will boast an all-electric powertrain. Upon launch this EV will directly compete with Tata’s highly popular Nexon EV. An electric motor will be powering the Mahindra XUV400 Electric, producing 310 Nm of peak torque and 147 Bhp of peak power at idle. The 39.4 kWh battery pack powering the electric SUV is said to give it a 456-kilometer range. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h will happen in 8.3 seconds, and the highest speed will be electronically restricted at 150 km/h.
