Independence Day 2025 is going to be an exciting time for cinephiles, although it may turn out to be bad for filmmakers.
While Ayan Mukerji’s ‘War 2’ was expected to enjoy its solo run on Independence Day weekend with an easy minimum collection of Rs.1000 crores in mind, a new competitor may pull the plug on its success.

War 2 had everything it could desire — YRF Spy Universe, Hrithik Roshan, and Jr. NTR all together in one film. It was projected to be the biggest film of 2025, but things may change now.
The film will now be competing with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Coolie’, starring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role.

While this may not impact War 2’s performance in the North, it will certainly prove to be a ‘suicide’ for both films in South India. Lokesh-Rajini’s popularity among Tamil and Telugu audiences may prove disastrous for War 2.
While War 2 may suffer losses in Telugu, the Tamil release can be detrimental to Coolie, owing to the pan-India appeal of Hrithik Roshan and the War franchise.

On top of that, Sunny Deol is set to return as well, this time with another patriotic package called ‘Lahore 1947’. This three-way division of the audience will ruin the business of each film, preventing them from reaching their full potential.
Social media has been ruminating on this as well, with users expressing themselves in the comments. One user said, “War 2 will rule North India, but the South is a different ball game with Rajini sir in the mix!”
Another commented, “Three films, one day – good for fans, bad for business. Someone should move dates!”
With such suicidal timings, it will be sad to watch potential blockbusters bring each other down.
