Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Box Office Gimmick: Others Blindly Copying

Recently, Kollywood’s big-budget movies have had cameo roles from top stars in the industry; for example, Suriya’s Kanguva and Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time have cameo appearances of actors such as Karthi and Sivakarthikeyan. Will these cameo appearances be saturated by Kollywood?

This trend in Kollywood was officially started by Lokesh Kanagaraj in the movie Vikram, in which Suriya’s appearance as Rolex in the climax acquired lots of attention and became one of the major highlights of the movie.

After Vikram, superstars from three different industries appeared in cameo roles in the movie Jailer, and then Sivakarthikeyan appeared in a cameo role in Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time.

In these movies, cameos have been highly enjoyed by the audiences, and it’s also helped the movies to become a blockbuster success in terms of box office collections.

But Karthi’s cameo in the movie Kanguva was highly criticized by the audiences, and many audiences commented on social media that it was unnecessary for a boring film, and even Karthi’s goodwill got spoiled after Meiyazhagan.

For cameo appearances, many audiences on social media were mentioning that if it’s necessary, it will be enjoyable if there is a surprise cameo, but nowadays the directors of big-budget movies are just using cameos to make money out of it without any purpose.

Vikram’s Rolex cameo appearance and Jailer’s cameo appearances were part of the movie, as these characters have an impact on the story, but unnecessary cameo appearances should be reduced; otherwise, the trend will get saturated and will not be enjoyable in the future, says the audience.
