Laxmi Hebbalkar‘s car meets with accident; Minister, her brother escape with minor injuries

A car carrying Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar met with an accident near Kittur on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) morning. The Minister and her brother and MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, escaped with minor injuries.

Ms Hebbalkar has been admitted to a private hospital for a check up, police said.

The car hit a roadside tree, after the driver tried to avoid hitting a dog that was running astray, police said. A case is being registered.

The front bonnet of the car was crushed, and Ms Hebbalkar and other passengers in the car suffered minor injuries. Ms Hebbalkar has suffered minor injuries on the face and on her back, while Mr Hattiholi suffered some injuries on his head.

“Ms Hebbalkar and Mr Hattiholi had left Bengaluru for Belagavi on Monday night, after a Congress legislative party meeting. She chose to drive and not fly as there were no air crafts at night,’‘ family sources said.

Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled, inspected the spot and visited the hospital in which the Minister is being treated. The Minister’s mother and other family members visited her and inquired about her time.

Police said that Home Minister G Parameshwar made a phone call to Ms. Hebbalkar’s son Mrinal Hebbalkar and inquired about her health. Dr Parameshwar has instructed officers to take the utmost care about the Minister, a police officer said.
