LAUSD schools set to reopen on January 13 amid Los Angeles fire, except these 7 schools: Check here

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has announced that most schools will reopen today, January 13, 2025, after being closed for a week due to widespread fires across the county. LAUSD shared the news on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle. However, some schools in the most affected areas will remain closed.
The official tweet reads, ‘We have considered a number of factors, including improved fire containment, air quality, wind conditions, utility availability, road accessibility, school-site readiness and staffing. Recognizing there are employees and families directly impacted by the fires, a number of resources have been prepared to help address ongoing needs, including employee assistance, securing substitute coverage, and managing other logical challenges.’

As per the notice, schools that are open, including after-school programs, will operate on a full inclement weather schedule, which limits outdoor and athletic activities. Additionally, masks will be available for students and staff members.

7 Schools to remain closed

While most schools will resume operations, a few schools will remain closed due to mandatory evacuation orders in the areas most affected by the fires. Here is the list of affected schools:

  • Canyon Charter Elementary
  • Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary
  • Palisades Charter Elementary
  • Marquez Charter Elementary
  • Topanga Charter Elementary
  • Lanai Road Elementary
  • Paul Revere Middle School

LAUSD has notified that these schools will reopen as soon as conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
Additionally, a decision regarding Roscomare Road Elementary and Community Magnet Charter, currently in an evacuation warning zone, will be made no later than 5:30 am on Monday morning.
LAUSD will continue to monitor the conditions overnight, and an update will be posted on the official website (lausd.org) at 10 pm. Any changes will be communicated to parents and employees by 5:30 am the following morning.
Parents and employees are advised to visit the official website of the Los Angeles Unified School District for the latest updates and further information. The district urges the community to stay informed and follow safety protocols during this challenging time.
