- Latrell Mitchell fined $100,000 by South Sydney
- However, $80,000 of that amount will be suspended

South Sydney have issued troubled star Latrell Mitchell a whopping $100,000 fine following the white substance photo scandal – but $80,000 will be suspended.
The heavy sanction from the Rabbitohs comes as Mitchell was also fined $20,000 by the NRL after the Integrity Unit concluded the fullback breached the sport’s code of conduct.
It followed a widely circulated image from a Dubbo hotel room.
Mitchell will have to cough up $40,000 and is said to be on his final chance at the Rabbitohs, with board members concerned about numerous instances of questionable behaviour in recent months.
‘This has been a very challenging time for everyone at South Sydney, including staff and management, coaches, players, members, supporters, and Latrell himself,’ chief executive Blake Solly told News Corp.
‘Most importantly, it has been very difficult for his family. This is not lost on Latrell.
‘He has shown great remorse and given us a solid commitment to improve himself, make better decisions, and to work towards becoming the best dad he can be to his children, the best partner he can be to Brielle, and the player he can be for the Rabbitohs.’
Solly added Mitchell, 27, ‘has taken full responsibility for his actions’ and is committed to ‘making better decisions in the future.’

Mitchell has at times been a magnet for controversy – he was suspended for three matches following a late elbow on Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson and then engaged in a war of words with Anthony Mundine which dragged on for weeks following the Spencer Leniu and Ezra Mam racism saga from Las Vegas.
Throw in Mitchell’s expletive-laden post game Triple M interview followed by his public disagreement with NRL 360 host Braith Anasta at a Sydney restaurant – and it understandable that club officials have had enough.
‘Trell Mit’ did help the NSW Blues win the Origin series with a commanding performance in game two at the MCG – only to then get injured against the Eels in an incident that saw him ruled out for the rest of the season.
The return of Wayne Bennett to the club in 2025 as head coach could go a long way to ensuring Mitchell stays on the right path.
They share a close bond and Bennett is looking forward to again working with the Indigenous role model.
‘I will be there for him and I hope I can give them [South Sydney] the help that he needs,’ Bennett said recently.
‘He is in good hands and he is a good person. I have a lot of time for Latrell.
‘South Sydney will handle the matter. They are a great club and they will get it right with Latrell.’
