After a long wait of six years, Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and a sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer, is finally out now in theatres. Apart from Malayalam, the film has also been released in other languages, including Hindi.
The public reactions are out now. The film has undoubtedly received a positive response from the Malayalam audience. However, it looks like the Hindi belt is not so satisfied, despite that a few of them have watched Lucifer.

Although Hindi reviewers have praised the production design, they have complained about the film’s length, which has been described as boring. The climax has been described as predictable, even though the film teases the third part in the end.
While Mohanlal’s action has been loved by a lot of people, certain sequences in the first half that build up the story are being described as uninteresting.

Moreover, the social media cinema audience has also called it a propaganda movie in the disguise of a film. One particular sequence has been criticized by the Hindi audience, where Hindus are being called negative and extremists.
Notably, people have been disappointed with Mohanlal at the same time. Prithviraj had once said in an interview that L2: Empuraan is one of his ambitious projects in terms of filmmaking and narration, and Mohanlal was so impressed with Prithviraj’s presentation of the story that he also decided to produce the film.

On the other hand, few people feel that Lucifer was far better than L2: Empuraan, and some have described the sequel as a wasted opportunity.
The film might become a big blockbuster in Malayalam. However, it will be tough for the film at the same time to survive in the theatres of North India. With Salman Khan’s Sikandar releasing on Sunday, more obstacles are standing in the way.
