Bengaluru: As many as 5, 374 dengue cases have been reported in the State and 5 deaths were reported till Monday. Out of it, 1230 dengue cases were reported in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The Chief Minister held a meeting on steps to be initiated to control the spread of dengue in the State and directed the health staff to conduct door-to-door surveys on dengue and create awareness on steps to control the spread of the disease.
Apart from Bengaluru, he said, dengue cases have increased in the districts of Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Haveri, Shivamogga, Chitradurga and Dakshina Kannada and wanted the health department officials to initiate steps so that the fatality rate in the State does not exceed the Government of India guidelines. As per the guidelines, dengue case fatality should not exceed 0.5 percent.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Services Dinesh Gundu Rao told reporters after the meeting chaired by Chief Minister, every Friday an intensive source detection activity will be conducted across the State to destroy aedes aegypti larvae to bring the spread of disease under control.
The source detection activity will be carried out by health staff including volunteers, ngos, members of National Service Scheme (NSS), nursing students among others. During the source detection activity, the staff will create awareness among the people on ways to control the spread of the disease.
Minister stated that spraying is an effective way to deal with dengue. Besides, the State Government has provided testing kits to detect dengue and also testing of dengue cases has been increased from previous year.
Rao told people to initiate precautionary measures such as to cover water storage points so as not to allow mosquitoes to breed.
