In an unusual turn of events, a man from Kanpur managed to outwit a cyber fraudster and extract ₹10,000 from him, turning the tables on the scammer.
Bhupendra Singh received a call from someone posing as a CBI officer. The fraudster claimed to have compromising videos of him and threatened legal action unless he paid ₹16,000 to settle the matter. Sensing a scam, Bhupendra decided to play along and trick the fraudster instead.

He first pretended to panic and told the scammer that he needed ₹3,000 to retrieve a pawned gold chain. Believing the story, the scammer sent the money.
A few days later, Bhupendra spun another tale, saying the jeweler had refused to release the chain since he was a minor. His friend, pretending to be the jeweler, convinced the scammer to send an additional ₹4,480.

In a final move, Bhupendra tricked the fraudster into sending another ₹3,000 for a fake gold loan processing fee. By the time the scammer realized he had been deceived, it was too late. He pleaded for his money back, but Bhupendra had already reported the incident to the police and pledged to donate the amount.
While online scams are a growing threat, this case stands out as a rare instance where a victim turned the situation to his advantage.
