Kannur University has initiated an investigation following the publication of first-semester examination results for an unauthorised BCom (CA) course on its official website. The course, offered at WMO Imam Ghazali Arts and Science College, Wayanad, had not received university approval, raising concerns about procedural lapses.
University’s Vice-Chancellor K.K. Saju has formed a three-member syndicate committee to trace the origin of the error that led to the results being published. The issue was brought to light by Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) State vice president P. Muhammad Shammas, who alleged irregularities in the admission process and operations linked to the K-REAP (Kerala Resources for Education Administration and Planning Resource) software.
According to Mr. Shammas, 31 students were granted admission to the unrecognised course, bypassing the single-window admission system mandated by Kannur University. These students registered for exams through the K-REAP software, which allegedly operated without the university’s knowledge. Despite this, the university published their results, raising concerns about governance and oversight.
“K-REAP has made the university a puppet in the hands of a Maharashtra-based company, MKCL, lacking transparency and accountability,” Mr. Shammas alleged.
He further claimed that the university’s reliance on this software has compromised the credibility of higher education, allowing unrecognised courses and admissions to flourish unchecked.
The KSU had demanded a thorough investigation, questioning how students were permitted to register for exams in an unapproved course and why the K-REAP project, despite repeated allegations, continues under external control.
Mr. Shammas also alleged that key university officials were complicit in turning higher education into a commercial enterprise under the guise of the K-REAP scheme.
The university statute’s clear stipulations on course affiliations appear to have been ignored, Mr. Shammas said, urging authorities to expose the full extent of the irregularities and safeguard students’ futures.
The Vice-Chancellor assured that the syndicate committee will uncover the truth behind the incident and take necessary corrective measures.
