Alia Bhatt’s Jigra was expected to become a big hit at the box office. However, the film failed to attract the public despite being released on a festive weekend.

Trade experts were specifically shocked to witness a big drop on Sunday. Meanwhile, a few of them have now opened up on the reasons leading to the failure of the action thriller.

Well-known critic Taran Adarsh stated that the film’s fate was already written before being released on the big screen. He said that when a film is not accepted by the audience, the blame should be given to the content and other external factors.

Taran also mentioned that it was wrong to bring an “arthouse director to make a masala film.” He said that such directors can’t understand the requirements of a section of the audience that loves to enjoy entertainers on the big screen.

The owner of Bihar-based Roopbani Cinema, Vishek Chauhan, claimed that Jigra should not have been released in theatres. He said that it fell into the category of films that somehow survived before the pandemic.

Vishek addressed how the audience’s choices have changed after watching all kinds of content during the pandemic. He even requested the filmmakers to bring something new instead of being inspired by others’ work.

On the other hand, there was a different situation for Jigra in some places despite clashing with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video on the same day.

While a few theatre owners claimed that the latter performed better on their screens, The Friday Cinema multiplex owner Kirtibhai T Vaghasia stated that the audience was not interested in both films.

With the dry spell once again lingering at the box office, it remains to be seen if Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 can bring back the housefull boards outside the theatres.
