New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams was back in practice and broke his silence on Friday after being called out by his quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, for what the 40-year-old believed to be a game-deciding mistake.Â
The diss, combined with Tuesday’s trade for Davante Adams, put Williams in a precarious position, only made worse that he skipped Wednesday and Thursday’s practices due to ‘personal reasons.’Â
Williams appeared to make a crucial mistake in the dying seconds of the game against the Bills – when he ran the wrong route and slipped, leading to a costly interception that sealed a victory for Buffalo.Â
Less than 12 hours later, New York acquired Adams, who played with Rodgers in Green Bay and usurped Williams on the depth chart.Â
Rumors spread of a trade for Williams in a more-crowded Jets wide-receiving corps, but his message on Friday was not one of anger for his situation or towards Rodgers.Â
Aaron Rodgers was publicly critical of Jets wide receiver Mike Williams after Monday’s game
Williams broke his silence while returning to practice on Friday after missing the last two days
Williams said he was not upset with Rodgers’ public criticism of him: ‘No, I just gotta be on the red line,’ he continued about running the right route.Â
The longtime Charger also dismissed he wasn’t at 100-percent health this week. Williams added Rodgers reached out to speak with him directly after being critical of him.Â
‘Yeah. We all watched film, we all go through it and make corrections,’ Williams continued.Â
Williams also has to contend in the Jets wide receivers room with Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson, who both have more experience playing with Rodgers than he does. Â
‘It’s still building, day-by-day, practice-by-practice, game-by-game,’Â
Williams and Rodgers will have more chances to build that chemistry on Sunday night when the Jets face the Steelers.
