It was a tough outing with a real fighter standing his ground in front of him but Mexico’s Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez gets the points decision!

The judges score the match 115-112, 115-112, 117-110.

That’s a unanimous decision from the judges and probably the right call.

Yuniel Dorticos fought well in the early rounds but from the fifth onwards Ramirez closed out the fight.

Three minutes of this fight left to go. Zurdo Ramirez eases off and wants Dorticos to come forward and walk into punches.

Ramirez is playing things safe but keeps Dorticos in check with an overhead left.

A quick flurry from Ramirez comes in response from a combo by Dorticos.

There’s the bell. Both men embrace, Zurdo Ramirez might just have done enough to defend his titles.

Yuniel Dorticos fought well but couldn’t get that knockout blow.

Dorticos needs a knockout or at least a knockdown but his power doesn’t seem to be there anymore.

Ramirez weaves and works his way around Dorticos and lands some nice shots. He’s forced back to the ropes but evades a right hook and throws a counter-left which clips Dorticos on the side of the head.

The clock ticks down. This is is going the distance.

Ramirez defends well as Dorticos looks for a combination to the head.

He tries to keep Ramirez at bay and goes low below the belt three times in a row!

The referee docks a point from Dorticos which could prove crucial.

Dorticos might need a knockout now and lands a good left hook. Ramirez works the body is response then switches to the head for a one-two.

Ramirez hasn’t been able to land that big heavy hit yet but he’s now controlling the fight well enough. Chipping away and landing punches.

Ramirez has his back to the ropes but wants to draw Dorticos in so he can land a counter. Dorticos doesn’t take the bait and instead shuffles back meaning Ramirez has to step on the front foot.

A couple of nice body shots and a clean uppercut from Ramirez shows he’s going through the gears again.

Both fighters swing and land at each other but Ramirez doesn’t seem too bothered by the punches landing.

Dorticos might be out of gas. He’s still swinging but the tempo and intensity of the earlier rounds isn’t there anymore.

There’s more success for Ramirez as he goes low, low, low then moves up top and finds a shot to the head.

Dorticos seems to be trying to catch his breath slightly. He’s five years older than Ramirez and that will have some bearing as this fight goes on.

A less intense round but some decent combinations from Ramirez.

Ramirez has landed 40 body shots over the first six rounds which has been the bulk of his work. It’s not been bombastic but it’s been consistent.

The closer Ramirez gets to Dorticos the more combinations he’s throwing. He’s been biding his time to get inside of Dorticos’s reach.

A good left hook clips Dorticos on the side of the head. It’s not a truly clean blow and Dorticos shrugs it off.

Zurdo Ramirez seems to have woken up.

A nice left hook from Dorticos rattles Ramirez’s head.

Dorticos is dictating again but Ramirez’s is slowly working the body then moves quickly up to the head and nearly lands a massive blow.

A competitive round ends well for Ramirez with two or three punches landing inside the final 10 seconds.

Halfway through the fight now, I’ve no clue which way this is being scored. Probably three rounds each for both fighters.

Ramirez needs to change the dynamic of this fight. Two thirds of it still to go.

A one-two from Ramirez lands on the body of Dorticos and the champion is starting to go through the gears.

Ramirez is moving better and lands a nice three-punch combo. He lands a jab on the chin but Dorticos isn’t phased.

A stronger round from Ramirez. He’s starting to tick.

Ramirez is slowly edging his way forward but Dorticos keeps him at distance and lands a couple of big punches on his opponent’s head.

Ramirez takes a shot to the body and is forced onto the ropes.

Dorticos is setting the pace in this fight. He’s winning it at present but both fighters trade body shots at the end of the round.
