The past Jagan government was involved in various violations that led to increased pressure and monetary load on the electricity department, it has come to light. The big fraud meant doling out benefits to YSRCP leaders.
The measure taken by the past government were against the requirements and the financial condition of electricity departments.

Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy had given permission to 68 substations, while ex-minister Peddireddy gave a go-ahead for 30 substations. These apart, the government allotted another 350 substations during its term.
The Jagan government overlooked the needs of electricity department and purely worked for the commissions that its members could avail.

Following the government’s nod, YSRCP leaders got approvals for substations, often where there was no necessity. The present government has stalled the construction of 140 substations with immediate effect.
Each substation cost is estimated at Rs 2.5 crore. By stalling the construction, the AP government has saved Rs 350 crore.

The government comes out with an annual report based on the electricity requirements of the state. One such report was issued for 2020-24.
Accordingly, it was identified that the state needed 927 substations costing Rs 1891 crore. However, Jagan government allotted an additional 350 substations at a cost of Rs 875 crore. This exerted pressure on the department which was already running in a deficit of Rs 1.12 lakh crore.
The YSRCP MLAs and ministers had made recommendations for substations as it meant money in commissions. Each substation needed 4 operators and the YSRCP members made around Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per post.
While YSRCP leaders made about Rs1 crore by filling the posts, the additional burden was levied on the people of AP in the form of FPPCA, according to a story in Andhrajyothi.
