Illegal immigration has become a major problem for the US in recent years. It reached record numbers this year from the Canadian border and raised questions over Biden’s presidency. While Harris and Trump will have their say in the upcoming presidential debate, Elon Musk has weighed in with a bold claim.
In a recent post on X, Musk alleged that Democrats are aiming to legalize 15 million immigrants “as soon as possible, as well as bring in tens of millions more.” According to him, this would turn all the swing states towards Democrats “turning America into a permanent one-party system.” He ends his post with a warning saying, “This is the last real election if Trump loses.”

However, one should take this opinion with a pinch of salt as Musk has been openly supporting Trump for the upcoming elections. Trump has even said he would appoint a Taskforce, led by Musk, to audit the Federal government and recommend major reforms. Therefore, any word from Musk is as good as coming from any other Republican.
Moreover, there is a lack of any evidence of where Musk pulled out this huge number from. While he claims that all Democratic leaders have publicly claimed so, there is no report to back this up. Harris has claimed that she will create “an earned pathway to citizenship” for illegal immigrants. However, there is no official number.

On the contrary, it is Trump who has given his extensive plan to deport 15-20 million illegal immigrants out of the US. This number is believed to be extremely exaggerated as the population of illegal immigrants is not even close to this.
Another question that should be raised is whether it is even practical to allow 15 million people suddenly into your country. It seems that it is a bloated statement from Musk. The US will remain a bi-party system for the foreseeable future unlike what he warns us. Nonetheless, one thing is clear both parties have totally opposing policies regarding immigration. Thus, it will be a contentious point of debate as Harris and Trump will face off behind the podium on Tuesday.
