KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja had an animated conversation
- CSK beat DC By 77 runs to seal playoff berth
- Jadeja conceded 50 runs in his four-over spell
CSK have reached the playoffs for the 12th time the 14 years they have participated in the competition showing their incredible consistency. Dhoni & Co.’s impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) has all but sealed a Qualifier 1 spot for them which will mean they have two chances at reaching the final in the pursuit of a record-equaling fifth IPL title.
While the CSK camp has been an example of being one of the happiest camps in the tournament that visibly has an incredible team environment, there was a rare moment of friction at the end of the game on Saturday (May 20) as skipper Dhoni and former captain Jadeja appeared to have a heated conversation.
The video clip of the same went viral. While no details have yet appeared what was the conversation about, Jadeja did not appear pleased about something while Dhoni appeared to give an explanation as the duo walked back towards the dressing room.
Jadeja had a good day with the bat as he scored a quick-fire seven-ball 20 to help CSK finish strong and post a massive total of 223 on the board. However, the left-arm spinner had a rare poor day with the bowl in the tournament as he conceded 50 runs in his four-over spell despite getting one wicket.
Ghosts of 2022 revisited?
In the rich history of CSK, the 2022 season is one moment that is not kindly remembered. Jadeja replaced Dhoni as captain at the start of the season as it appeared that the four-time champions were planning a transition to the post-Dhoni era. However, CSK started the season on a sour note by winning just two of their first eight games. This saw Jadeja removed from the top job as Dhoni returned to lead the team.
Jadeja left the CSK camp after two matches following a rib injury but the sequence of events had sparked rumours of the star Indian all-rounder wanting to leave the franchise. Ultimately, Jadeja and CSK were able to resolve any differences as he was retained ahead of the 2023 auction.
Jadeja has had an incredible season with the ball so far as he has taken 17 wickets in 14 games at an impressive economy of 7.65. The 34-year-old has won the MOTM award on three occasions.
