Television actors Indraneil Sengupta and Barkha Bisht got married in 2008 but decided to part ways after 13 years of marriage. In a recent interview, Indraneil said that their separation brought a positive change in his life. He added that even though their marriage ended in divorce, he doesn’t see it as a failure as they stayed together for 13 years.
During an appearance on The Real Story With Sanghmitra Hitaishi’s YouTube channel, he shared, “Something went wrong in my life, which was really wrong in the public eye. It was right there in front of everyone to see.” The actor further added that his divorce affected him in a “positive way” even though the incident itself was “negative.” “It affected my life completely in a positive way. Although the incident is very negative, but the impact it brought was positive in terms of my personality development,” he said.
Talking more about the end of his marriage, Indraneil said, “Even my marriage, if someone says it hasn’t worked out, I would say it has, it did for 13 years. It just didn’t go forever. Why is the idea of a relationship forever? It’s great if it’s forever, but it might not be. Have there been good years, good moments, and bad moments? Yes. Two people together have their journeys and their individual journeys as well.”
“No one is wrong. Even the personality changes,” he said and added, “Both of us were very different people, we knew that from day one. But, as the years passed, we became more of ourselves.” Indraneil insisted, “It wasn’t unsuccessful at all. Nothing has failed, I don’t agree with the word failure.”
The actor was shocked listening to the kind of advice he got from people during his separation with Barkha. “I have been told that ‘protect the family. Do whatever you wish to do, all men do, but save your marriage’. Is this an advice?” he said.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, his ex-wife Barkha accused him of infidelity and said that it was because of this reason that their marriage ended. “It’s a choice to move out of a marriage and it was Indraneil’s choice to move out of the marriage. He chose to move out of the marriage for reasons best known to him. If it were in my hands, I would still be married. We had a good marriage,” she said.
