India’s economic growth is forecast to be 6.5 per cent in fiscal 2024, according to the Economic Survey released by the government a day ahead of the Union Budget presentation. The Economic Survey was tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, her fifth since 2019. The Economic Survey was presented after President Draupadi Murmu address to the parliament.
India has a “fearless, decisive government today”, President Murmu said as she addressed a joint sitting of parliament on the opening of the Budget session. “The government will complete nine years soon. The biggest change today is that every Indian is at the peak of their confidence. Today, India is becoming a solution for the world’s problems,” President Murmu said in her debut address.
The Economic Survey will be tabled in the Parliament today, a day ahead of the Union Budget. The first part of the Budget Session will conclude on February 13 while the second part will be held from March 13-April 6.
Several Congress MPs, including Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, will not be able to attend the President’s address due to delayed flights from Srinagar on account of bad weather, party leader Jairam Ramesh said. The Congress leaders and MPs are in Srinagar for the concluding events of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Monday.

Steps taken by the government like construction of separate toilets for girls in schools and a scheme related to sanitary pads have led to a sharp decline in dropout rate of girls, President Droupadi Murmu said on Tuesday.
Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament on the first day of the Budget Session, she said from education to career, the central government is trying to remove all obstacles for “daughters”.
There has been a steady decline in the school dropout rate and increase in enrolment both in school and higher education, the Economic Survey for 2022-23 tabled in Parliament on Tuesday showed. The gender parity has also improved in this financial year, the survey, tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, stated.
“The Gross Enrolment Ratios (GER) in the primary-enrolment in Class 1 to 5 as a percentage of the population in age six to 10 years – for girls as well as boys has improved during the financial year (FY),” .
The country’s civil aviation sector has “great potential” owing to growing demand from the middle class, higher disposable incomes and favourable demographics, while air travel has rebounded with the lifting of the coronavirus pandemic-related curbs, according to the Economic Survey.

The wait for the annual national Budget is almost over as the Union government is set to table the Economic Survey today. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the pre-Budget document in the Parliament after President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament.

The Economic Survey will also be tabled in the Parliament, a day ahead of the Union Budget tomorrow.
“Due to delayed flights from Srinagar airport on account of inclement weather conditions, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, and many other Congress MPs will be unable to attend the President’s address to both Houses of Parliament at 11am today,” tweets Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
Mr Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and few other Congress leaders will take a noon flight to Delhi.
BRS leader K Keshava Rao has said his party will boycott the President’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament to protest against the BJP-led Centre’s “failure on all fronts of governance”. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) too said it will boycott the address. Read here.
