Indian Food

The one thing Indians are very passionate about is their food. There is a lot of pride involved with our culture and cuisine. This is why a post from TasteAtlas sparked outrage from Indian netizens when it tried to claim an Indian dish as British.

While ranking the 50 best chicken dishes in the world, TasteAtlas included four items from India. But this number could’ve increased to five as they included Chicken Tikka Masala but gave the UK as its country of origin. It was appalling for many as it is the most Indian-sounding name for a food item there is! However, there is some controversy regarding the origin of the dish. There have been multiple claims from different regions about who started serving the curry with chicken tikka first. And this debate might be endless.

Nonetheless, whether it was an immigrant in Britain or an original Indian who invented the dish, one thing that is clearly evident is that there is nothing British about the name of the dish that traces its roots to the Indian subcontinent. Cultural appropriation is not new for Britain, it has been done in one form or the other over the years. However, the British might learn that Indian food is not to be meddled with.
