Indian Elderly Losing Green Cards?

The US Customs has fallen to another low, targeting the Indian Elderly detaining them at the airport, and forcing them to surrender their Green Cards.

A recent report suggested a targeted attack on vulnerable seniors. Legal experts have weighed in on this situation and they advise not to give in. Green cards can only be revoked by an immigration judge, not by CBP officers at the airport.

Even those who stay outside for less than a year are facing trouble. While the law considers absences over 180 days as potential abandonment, the crackdown is now extending to shorter stays.

Be alert and if you are a Green Card holder, you must stay in the US minimum of 6 months, or get approval before you leave the country. However, under the current government, it will be hard to get any approval.

There are more cases of Indians giving up their GC because of this 6 months rule. Thus, it is advised to try avoiding going out of the US till things settle down.
