An Indian-origin doctor violated the sacred trust between a doctor and a patient as he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female veteran patient in the US.
Dr. Rajesh Motibhai Patel, a primary care doctor at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia, was convicted by a federal jury after an eight-day trial. It concluded that during a routine exam between 2019 and 2020, the accused groped his patient’s breasts and touched her private parts without consent.

Patel was also accused by three other patients of similar crimes but was acquitted from other cases. The 69-year-old doctor is now awaiting the court to pass the punishment on his charges.
The Department of Veterans Affairs called the crimes “reprehensible.” It is really upsetting to see retired women get violated by a doctor at a facility that is specifically meant for their health and safety.

The court will now pass its final sentence on February 20, 2025. Justice served in this case should inspire others to come forward, knowing their voices will be heard and their abusers will face dire consequences.
