Heart Attacks

A recent study showed that Indian Americans are at a much higher risk of heart failure compared to other groups like Hispanics and African Americans. This research, done by Columbia University in New York, involved 3,000 people.

The study used data from the Strong Heart Study to create a simple tool to help predict heart failure in Indian Americans.

The study found that heart failure happens 2 to 3 times more often in this group than in others.

Factors like high blood sugar, smoking, kidney problems, past heart attacks, older age, diabetes, and high blood pressure increase the risk.

Apart from heart failure, Indian Americans also face many other health issues, such as mental health problems, suicide, accidental injuries, obesity, substance abuse, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), teenage pregnancy, liver disease, and hepatitis.

The tool created by the researchers can help doctors better understand the risks Indian Americans face and develop ways to prevent heart problems.
