India T20 Squad SL Series: India’s superstar injured trio of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are unlikely to be risked for T20 series. However, all three will return in the ODI series.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both are unlikely to be picked for T20 LEG of the series. According to available information, Rishabh Pant will face the axe from T20 squad. In all likelihood Sanju Samson & Ishan Kishan will be picked ahead of Pant.
“Rohit is yet to be 100% and we don’t want to take any risk when it comes to injury. Jadeja and Bumrah are back at the NCA. Their prognosis is good. If they clear the fitness test, they will be eligible for selection. But considering the workload in ODIs, it is only natural that they will return in the ODIs. T20s are not our focus currently,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma Injury – The Indian captain is nursing the thumb injury he suffered during IND BAN 2nd ODI. With the Australia series coming up in February, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any risks.
IND vs SL Series: What is Rohit’s injury status?
- The board is not ready to take any risk whatsoever with Rohit’s injury,
- In previous cases it rushed players like Deepak Chahar, & Jasprit Bumrah, and paid a price.
- With Australia Test series coming up in February, the board wants to make sure Rohit’s thumb is fully healed.
- A place in the WTC final spot is at stake, and the India opener’s availability for the Australia series is vital.
- Rohit is currently feeling some stiffness in his thumb. BCCI medical team has advised Rohit a complete rehab.
- The duration of it is still not known, but for now, it may take three to four weeks.
Ravindra Jadeja Injury – The all-rounder was set to return for Bangladesh tour. But with no improvement, he missed out. He is also back at the NCA at the moment. He had an injury assessment before the IPL auction. He is progressing well and will return for the ODI series. A call on his T20 return is on the selectors. With the history of injuries, selectors are unlikely to risk him.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury – The other superstar of Indian cricket, Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since the Australia series. His half-baked rushed return following yet another back injury cost him the T20 World Cup. But he is doing well and will return for the ODI series. He could return for the T20 series against SriLanka to gradually take the workload. But it’s once again selectors’ call. If he misses out on the T20s, he is certain for the ODI series.
“Both Jadeja and Bumrah are fit. They had their injury assessment this week and they are doing fine. Jasprit has returned to bowling full time. Jadeja has also resumed bowling. They are available for selection. Whether they will return for the T20s is a call of the selectors. They are mindful that there will be no rushed return,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
However, it’s Rishabh Pant who is set to face an axe from the T20 team. Pant despite his Test heroics is going through a bad patch in T20s. With Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson doing well, both will get the nod. Ishan and Sanju have both scored runs in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as well.
