In a recent development, India and the USA have signed a bilateral Security of Supply Agreement (SOSA) which mandates both countries to provide priority support goods that bolster each country’s national defense. This is a great deal for both nations as both spend a significant amount on the military.

India constantly faces attacks from their neighboring countries Pakistan and China and hence requires a strong military infrastructure. On the other hand, America also maintains its military dominance over the world with high expenditure. It is evident that both take their defense seriously. This deal will not only advance their military systems but it will also strengthen political ties between the two countries.

However, SOSA is a pact between the two countries and it is not legally binding. The two countries are still in talks to sign the Reciprocal Defence Procurement Agreement (RDP).

After RDP, all manufacturing companies will be legally bound to prioritize the other country’s military demands. This means during times of crisis or any emergency, India can rely on the USA to support them and meet any of its military demands or the US companies might face some repercussions. This is why RDP is a likely next step but might take some time to agree upon.
