IND vs SL ODI: India get near full-strength squad for SriLanka ODIs, 3 BIG Selection HEADACHES for Rahul Dravid for 1st ODI, Check OUT
Shubman Gill or Ishan Kishan
Who will open with Rohit Sharma? In his most recent ODI encounter against Bangladesh, Kishan smashed the quickest double century, while Gill has appeared in 15 ODIs and is averaging above 55.
The Gujarat Titans’ opener has taken advantage of his opportunities brilliantly while Rohit is out. It will ultimately be up to Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to make a difficult decision.
- Gill is slightly ahead in the pecking order owing to the consistency the right-hand batter has shown in 15 ODIs.
- If Rohit is looking at the solidarity at the top, Gill will solve that problem.
- While Kishan’s double-century should be a clincher, the southpaw is not as consistent as Gill when it comes to run-scoring.
- If Rohit Sharma wants a left-hand attacking option at the top, then Kishan is best placed to play against Sri Lanka.
SuryaKumar Yadav or Shreyas Iyer
The Number 4 position in Team India has very high stakes at the moment. The two of the best white-ball players for India in the recent past, Shreyas Iyer and SuryaKumar Yadav are eyeing for the No 4 spot ahead of the World Cup.
On one side there is SKY whose heroics helped India defeat Sri Lanka in the T20I series. It was a case of the new year, the same Suryakumar Yadav. The man known as SKY continued his incredible year from 2022 with a spectacular century in Rajkot, pulling up his hundred off just 45 deliveries.
While Shreyas Iyer who is yet to play in 2023 was a revelation in 2022, especially when it came to ODIs. He was the highest scorer for India in ODIs and in International Cricket overall for Men in Blue.
Despite having difficulty getting regular playing time, the 28-year-old made the most of his chances and scored runs in all three formats, with ODIs being his most successful format in which he amassed 724 runs in 15 innings.
While SKY had a great run in the shortest format in 2022, scoring 1,164 runs in 31 innings, his overall statistics suffered greatly because he didn’t play red-ball cricket.
Bowling combination
With Mohammed Siraj, Mohammad Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah coming back into the team. The options will be many in front of Rohit Sharma for choosing his playing XI.
Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik will battle it out with seniors for the spot. While talking about spinners – Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel will be the options for Rohit.
- Man of the Series in T20s, Axar Patel will fight for SPOT in the ODI team with Yuzvendra Chahal & Washington Sundar.
- While Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammad Shami are set to play together for first time since the England tour. Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh will now fight for 1 SPOT.
