KS Bharat has been with the Indian team for over 1.5 years. Patiently warming the bench and waiting for his chance, the time has now arrived. KL Rahul who had a plethora of injuries in the past year won’t be in contention to keep wickets for India in the longest format of the game.

“KL has had number of injuries in the last one year or so. It’s not ideal for him to keep wickets in Tests. Test requires specialist keepers. There are two in the team in Bharat and Ishan. It’s up to the team management to decide who to pick,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

The BCCI official explained, that it would be a major risk to allow KL Rahul to keep in Test cricket as it might increase the risk of him sustaining another injury. Hence, the longest format of the game needs specialist keepers. As for the Indian contingent, there are two players that fill the slot, Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat.

KS Bharat to Get Test DEBUT

It is no surprise that KS Bharat is the frontrunner to grab the spot of the keeper after waiting for over 1.5 years behind the screen. With the team management claiming a strict ‘NO’ for KL Rahul, it is a tough competition between Bharat and Kishan. To make matters simple, Bharat gets the nod as Kishan is the no.1 choice being the wickets in white-ball cricket.

Ishan Kishan has been the No.1 keeper for India since Rishabh Pant’s snub from white ball cricket and now post his accident and recovery, the destructive batter is the go-to keeper for the Men in Blue. Despite slamming a double century in ODIs against Bangladesh, Kishan’s recent performances have been sub-par given the high standards that he has set for himself.
