Old Borden building set to open early 2023 … 310-acre industrial park planned for Spartanburg … and BMW continues its Greer growth. These are just a few headlines in the past month you might have missed from Upstate Business Journal.
The historic building that once served as the headquarters of Borden Ice Cream is undergoing a transformation and is set to reopen to the public in early 2023.
Located at 711 W. Washington St., on the periphery of Unity Park, the two-story building will reopen to the public as a Class A mixed-use development with more than 40,000 square feet of commercial space.
The building began as the home of the Greenville Ice Cream Co. in 1923, before being purchased by Borden Ice Cream in 1947. Borden served not only as the ice cream supplier to Greenville and beyond; it also employed hundreds of Greenville residents for generations.
NorthPoint Development, a developer based in Kansas City, Misssouri, has purchased 310 acres in Spartanburg for an undisclosed sum, the business announced Nov. 17.
The parcel at 2116 U.S. Highway 221/Chesnee Highway will be home to Spartan Enterprise Park, which will consist of five industrial buildings, ranging in size from 287,000 square feet up to 1,528,000 square feet. The development’s features will include:
- Cross-dock orientation
- Parking
- Trailer storage
- 40-foot clear heights
Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty soccer teams lead owner Joe Erwin was honored at the March of Dimes 25th annual Greenville Real Estate & Economic Development Awards luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville, the nonprofit announced Nov. 14.
The award honors an individual whose commercial real estate and economic development career and civic activities have significantly enhanced the community, said the March of Dimes in a press release.
“Joe Erwin is known for turning dreams into reality, which is evident in the major impact he has made on the Upstate’s economic development scene,” said Monica Gibson, manager, donor development, March of Dimes.
BMW’s 60,000-square-foot Vehicle Accessories Center is the latest in a number of new facilities the automaker has opened recently near its Greer assembly plant.
The $25 million center, which is expected to create about 60 new jobs, will “factory install” a number of accessories into new vehicles before they reach dealerships.
The parts will include wheels, body parts, decals, M Performance parts, interior trim pieces, floor mats, roof accessories and more, according to BMW.
The center will support vehicles like the X3, X5 and X7 sport utility vehicles, and it will support the upcoming XM that will begin assembly in December.
New South Construction Supply LLC, a concrete and masonry construction products distributor based in Greenville, acquired Malone Steel Corporation of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for an undisclosed sum.
Malone Steel will operate as New South Construction Supply – Ponte Vedra and the company’s president Jeff Malone will continue to oversee its day-to-day operations.
New South Construction Supply has branches in West Columbia, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hardeeville, South Carolina; Charlotte, Greensboro and Garner, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; and Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Truliant begins expansion in the Upstate with three additional branches
Truliant Federal Credit Union has officially begun its South Carolina market expansion.
The expansion includes the recently opened regional office located in downtown Greenville, the opening of a second freestanding branch at Cherrydale Point, set to open within the next few weeks, and two additional branches to follow in 2023.
