The country’s second-largest carmaker, Hyundai Motors India Limited, recently launched its newest micro-SUV, Exter, in India. The Tata Punch rival was introduced back in July of this year, and ever since then, it has been selling like hot samosas from the Hyundai dealerships. Recently, it has been revealed that the waiting periods on this micro-SUV have reached 9 months, and in some cities, it has even soared up to a year. The company, in an attempt to provide customers with cars quickly, has also ramped up the production of the Exter.
Recently, the Times of India reported that, as per the information received from a dealer, the entry-level variants are witnessing the longest queues. It has been reported that the base-level trims, including the EX and the S trims, have a waiting period of around 9 months. In some cities, the waiting periods for these models have even risen up to a year. Additionally, it has also been stated that the waiting periods for the top-spec variants, such as SX and SX(O), have reached four to five months.

On top of it, the dealer has also revealed that one-third of all the bookings received for this micro-SUV are for the automatic transmission variants. Both of these features highlight the increasing popularity of convenience features in the more budget-friendly vehicles in the country.

And now, to cut down on the waiting periods, Hyundai has decided to ramp up production by a substantial 30%. As per Hyundai, the production plan for the Exter was set at 6,000 units per month. However, in response to the overwhelming interest and growing bookings, Hyundai Motor India has increased its manufacturing capabilities to produce 8,000 units monthly.
