Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) caused ripples in Telangana last month by demolishing illegal structures built by encroaching lakes and other water bodies in and around Hyderabad.

HYDRA demolitions came to a halt over the last two weeks due to Ganesh Navaratri festivities and now, we hear that the team is gearing up to get back to the action.

According to the sources, HYDRA will be focusing on structures that were built on the Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zone of the iconic Hussain Sagar.

Ever since HYDRA demolitions started, many people urged the team and the government to take action against various structures, like Jalavihar and Thrill City, that were built by encroaching on Hussain Sagar’s land.

Various people, including the Forum for Better Hyderabad, have raised complaints against Jalavihar, claiming that it is an encroachment and the waste from the park is being dumped into Hussain Sagar Lake.

CPI’s National leader and former MP, Aziz Pasha, complained to HYDRA against Jalavihar, requesting them to demolish it. Reportedly, CPI leaders submitted Jalavihar’s alleged illegal encroachment details to HYDRA. It was stated that Jalavihar was constructed on 12.5 acres which comes under FTL and Buffer Zone of Hussain Sagar.

Established in 2007, Jalavihar was built on land leased by the government for 30 years. Along with water rides, the park also features a function hall. It has to be seen what action HYDRA takes on Jalavihar and other encroachments around Hussain Sagar.
