Hyderabad has been witnessing a huge rise in the culture of eating outside food over the past few years. People are slowly ignoring home-cooked food and are being inclined to eat out or order from online platforms. But reports suggest that the hygiene in the outside food is not as good as it should be.
As per the India Food Services Report (IFSR) 2024 by the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Hyderabadis are going out to eat or ordering food online seven times a month. It is just below the national average of eight.

According to the report, people are avoiding home food on get-together parties with family and friends, birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, and national holidays, to try new food outlets and when they go out for a movie or any other recreational place. Most people visit fine dining and casual dining restaurants.
Apart from the regular North Indian and South Indian cuisines, people are also preferring to eat and explore other cuisines like Chinese, American, Italian and Mexican.

Reportedly, there are more than 74,000 eateries in Hyderabad, including organized and unorganized eateries. There are over 40,000 organized restaurants out of which 40% are cloud kitchens.
Hyderabad has the fifth-largest organized food services sector in India, which is worth Rs. 10,161 crore. This shows the rapid growth of Hyderabad’s food industry.

However, the rising trend of eating out has raised concerns about food safety and hygiene. According to health experts, eating restaurant food regularly can lead to various health issues. They stated that many restaurant dishes are also high in calories, which increases the risk of obesity over time.
Experts say that better hygiene and safety standards should be maintained in Hyderabadi restaurants, which are very crucial in protecting customers’ health.
Recent inspections have revealed that even some well-known restaurants fail to meet hygiene requirements. People believe the government should take stricter action against such establishments to ensure restaurants maintain proper hygiene and food safety practices. This would encourage eateries to be more cautious and prioritize public health.
