Humane AI Pin faces a new challenge that needs quick attention from its users who can face major fire issues.
Humane asks AI Pin users to “immediately” stop using charging case. The startup founded by ex-Apple executives has told the users of their AI Pin to immediately stop charging the device’s case due to safety issue. There are problems with a third-party battery cell that “may pose a fire safety risk,” the company wrote in an email to customers, as per The Verge.
The mail came from the company after a single user reported a charging issue while using a third-party USB C-type cable and a third-party power source, prompting the company to investigate further about the issue.
“Our investigation determined that the battery supplier was no longer meeting our quality standards and that there is a potential that certain battery cells supplied by this vendor may pose a fire safety risk. As a result, we immediately disqualified this battery vendor while we work to identify a new vendor to avoid such issues and maintain our high-quality standards,” Humane stated in the E-mail to customers, as per The Verge.
The company also stated that the AI Pin its Battery Booster(s) and charge pad remain unaffected as the disqualified vendor does not supply batteries or any other components of those Humane products.
Due to the inconvenience caused, as compensation the company has provided the AI Pin users with an additional two-month free Humane subscription, which is required for most of its functionality, reported The Verge. The subscription costs USD 24.
However, the company didn’t offer any type of refund or replacement for their charging cases to the users. “Will share additional information when we have concluded our investigation,” the E-mail concluded.
All the Humane AI Pin users are advised to stop using the device’s charging case and wait for further instructions from the company.
For the unversed, Humane AI Pin is an AI-powered portable device designed to be pinned on your clothes and offering a range of functionalities including -making calls, sending messages and conducting various searches. It is a square-shaped device that comes with a battery pack and can be easily clipped to clothes or any accessories– just like a badge.
The most distinctive feature of the device is its projection system that displays information on the palm of the user, removing the need for a screen.
The device promises a seamless AI-assistant experience using voice commands, a camera and sensors.
Humane began shipping their AI Pin from end of March this year. The device has been priced at USD 699 (approx. Rs 58,000) in the United States and requires a USD 24 monthly subscription. The device is expected to launch in markets like India as well.
